About the Artist

Steve is a British artist based in Hollingwood, Chesterfield, with a passion for capturing the beauty and complexity of everyday life through finely detailed botanical art and still life drawings. Working primarily in dry media such as graphite and coloured pencil, his work reflects a deep appreciation for form, texture, and quiet observation.

Steve’s fascination with art began in childhood, and after years of nurturing his creative practice alongside a career in the printing industry, he has recently fulfilled a long-held ambition by establishing his own studio, currently residing at the Clocktower in Hollingwood in Chesterfield. There, he now paints and draws most weekends, continuing to develop his artistic voice.

His style is realistic, figurative, and often contemplative — inspired by artists from all eras. Each piece reflects a meticulous approach to composition and a commitment to portraying subjects with honesty and often with a playful twist.

Since 2014, Steve has exhibited his work in galleries and group exhibitions across the UK. His drawings have been published internationally and are held in private collections in both the UK and Europe. A highlight in his recent career was being shortlisted for the SAA) Artist of the Year 2024 with his highly commended drawing Japanese Peony — selected from thousands of entries and recognised as one of the top 100 works.

Whether working with botanical subjects, food still lifes, or more abstract forms, Steve finds inspiration in the everyday world around him — from nature to the objects we live with. Outside the studio, Steve balances his creative life with family and his long-standing role in the printing industry.
